16-19 Tuition Fund 2022 - 2023 academic year
Newcastle City Learning has received extra funding this year from the 16-19 Tuition Fund. This is funding for the 2022 to 2023 academic year. The fund is ringfenced for schools, colleges and all other 16-19 providers to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from coronavirus (COVID-19). We are using this funding to support small group tuition for eligible young learners, and for those who need further support to address gaps in their education that have negatively impacted upon their progression, prior to studying with Newcastle City Learning.
We are delivering both English and maths intervention sessions in small groups to our young learners. Providing them with very targeted support to help them to address gaps in their skills and knowledge and to provide them with high levels of support. This is enabling them to make good progress. This approach is having a significant impact in helping young learners to both consolidate and further develop their knowledge and skills in these key subjects. This is particularly important for our young learners studying GCSE examinations in the summer of 2023, as grade boundaries are predicted to rise, whilst the pass marks for Functional Skills examinations largely remain the same.
In some vocational subjects we have also been able to provide small group teaching to allow less confident learners to re-engage with study and to develop core personal, social and employability skills.
