Supported Internships

Supported internships are based with an employer. They are for young people aged 16-24 with an Education Health Care Plan. They may help you get a paid job by giving you the skills you need for work. Supported internships are unpaid, and last for a minimum of six months.

You will need to complete a minimum of two work placements whilst you are on programme. You will need to be able to work from 2 to 4 days a week, for approximately 5 hours a day with a 30-minute lunch break. This is negotiable to meet the needs of the business and you; you will become part of the team and gain valuable skills.

Whilst at work you will be supported by a Supported Employment Officer and/or tutor who will visit regularly and who will always be on hand to give you extra support.

You will also be expected to spend time within college, to attend maths and English lessons, as well as developing your skills for employment.

There will be entry requirements for this programme, so we can make sure it is the right route for you to take.

Here is what some of our previous interns have had to say:

“I have found the Supported Internship great and have picked up so many new skills along the way.”

“The Supported Internship is incredibly good, and the staff are incredibly supportive. I was nervous when I first started, but the team got me back to my jolly self. I loved my work placements and when I had a job interview for a café and got the job I was over the moon! I would not be where I am today if it was not for the staff .”

“I enjoyed trying out new placements, I have learnt so much from them.”
