Traineeships - what you need to know as a trainee or an employer
A Traineeship offers young people aged 16-24- or 25-year-olds with an education, health and care (EHC) plan get ready for an apprenticeship or job if they don’t have the appropriate skills or experience. It gives them the opportunity to combine training and qualifications with valuable work experience and improve their English and maths skills.
To prepare them for work, all trainees need to complete a minimum of 70 hours work experience. This could be between two to six weeks work experience with one or more employers (full or part time). A traineeship can last for up to a year, although most are less than six months.
